Hi, I’m Lauren McFarland!! I’m a passionate educator who believes learning should inspire curiosity, hope, and action. I created this space to share my educational and teaching journey.
My current passion is climate change education in early elementary classrooms, but I’m always exploring new ways to help students grow and thrive. When I’m not teaching, I’m finding opportunities to be outside- I love running, camping, and trying out new ice cream flavors!

I grew up in southeast Michigan, which is where I spent a majority of my life, including my undergraduate years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (Go Blue!). After my graduation in May of 2024 with my B.A. in Elementary Education, I began my M.A. program at Michigan State University that August with a focus on math & science education and educational psychology. I recently graduated with my master’s in December 2025.
Following my student teaching during the 2023-2024 school year, I worked as a research assistant at UofM on a few projects within the Educational Studies office until mid-2025. This role allowed me the flexibility to manage my master’s coursework while gaining valuable and applicable research experience. For the 2024-2025 school year, I was a substitute teacher at Cranbrook Schools: Brookside in Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Now, I live in Boston, Massachusetts, where I am an associate teacher in a first grade classroom at the Learning Project Elementary School. I am thrilled for my future over here on the east coast, but have certainly left a piece of myself on the shores of the Great Lakes.
